Devilwhere (2010)

Program Notes:
Devilwhere is an episodic musical fantasy where each movement (6 in total) is a reimagining of a classic blues song, several of which involve the concept of 'Devil' or Darkness. The songs that inspired the piece are from blues legends Skip James, Robert Johnson and Blind Willie Johnson. The piece was commissioned by violinist Barbara Govatos and the Delaware Chamber Music Festival in honor of its 25th anniversary season. The piece was also greatly inspired and influenced by guitarist David Bromberg whose musical imagination and encyclopedic knowledge of American music was an invaluable source of inspiration.
